Questions and Answers

What is the difference between a steering knuckle, a spindle, and a wheel hub?
While the terms are often used interchangeably, they refer to different parts of the assembly:
  1. Steering/Spindle Knuckle: The main structural cast-iron or aluminum piece that connects your suspension and steering components to the wheel.
  2. Wheel Hub & Bearing: The round component with the lug studs that presses into the knuckle, allowing your wheel to physically rotate.
  3. Please review the listing photos and description to see if this item is sold as a bare knuckle or a complete hub assembly.
Does it matter if my vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), All-Wheel Drive (AWD), or 4WD?
Yes, absolutely. Manufacturers frequently change the inner spline count, axle hole diameter, and brake rotor spacing on knuckles depending on the vehicle's drivetrain. A knuckle from a FWD model will rarely fit an AWD or 4WD model of the same vehicle. Always verify your drivetrain configuration before purchasing.
Are the left (driver side) and right (passenger side) knuckles interchangeable?
No. Spindle knuckles are highly directional, asymmetrical components. They feature specific mirrored mounting points for your steering tie rods, brake calipers, and control arms. A driver-side (Left) knuckle cannot be installed on the passenger side (Right).
Will this assembly arrive with the wheel bearing, hub, and dust shield attached?
We sell knuckles in various configurations. If the primary listing photos show a complete assembly with the hub, bearing, and metal dust shield attached, it will ship exactly as pictured. However, because these are used mechanical components, the wearable items (like wheel bearings and dust shields) are included as a convenience and are not covered under warranty. We highly recommend inspecting or replacing the wheel bearing prior to final installation.
What should I do about visible surface rust on the knuckle?
Because standard OEM knuckles are made of heavy-duty cast iron, they are highly prone to cosmetic surface rust from exposure to road elements. This brownish discoloration is purely cosmetic. Every knuckle we inventory is thoroughly cleaned, wire-brushed, and strictly inspected to ensure it is 100% structurally sound, crack-free, and has zero bends or warping.
Are the suspension bushings or ball joints included and ready to use?
If the knuckle features integrated rubber bushings or a pre-installed ball joint, they will be left intact. However, because these are wearable rubber items, their operational lifespan is not guaranteed. For your safety and optimal alignment, we recommend replacing old bushings or ball joints with fresh units before pressing the new knuckle onto your vehicle.
Will my factory ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor fit into this knuckle?
Yes, as long as the year, make, and model match perfectly. If the old, used ABS sensor is still stuck inside the knuckle's sensor bore in our photos, it is included purely as a free bonus. If it fails to read or trigger a dashboard light, simply remove it and swap your vehicle’s original working sensor into the mounting hole.
