Questions and Answers

What is the difference between a Hydraulic and an Electronic (Electric) steering rack?
  1. Hydraulic Racks: Use power steering fluid, hydraulic lines, and a fluid pump to provide steering assistance. They are easily identified by the metal fluid ports/lines running along the rack body.
  2. Electronic (EPS) Racks: Use an electric motor mounted directly onto the steering column or the rack itself to assist steering. They have heavy electrical wiring harnesses instead of fluid lines.
  3. Warning: These systems are not interchangeable. You must replace your original rack with the exact same system type (Hydraulic vs. Electric) that your vehicle came with from the factory.
Does this rack and pinion assembly come with the inner and outer tie rods?
Every steering rack we inventory includes the inner tie rods completely installed and protected by intact rubber boots. Outer tie rods are occasionally left attached as a convenience if they are in excellent condition. Please review the primary listing photos to see if outer tie rods are included with this specific unit. Note: For optimal wheel alignment and safety, we always recommend installing brand-new outer tie rod ends during installation.
Why do I see a small amount of oil residue near the rubber boots in the photos?
If you are purchasing a hydraulic rack, a tiny bit of residual power steering fluid might be present on the exterior from the careful removal and cleaning process. Rest assured, every single rack we sell undergoes a strict bench pressure test and internal seal inspection. We guarantee that the internal seals are 100% intact and that the rack will not leak fluid upon installation.
Do I need to flush my steering system before installing a hydraulic rack?
Yes, this is highly recommended. If your original steering rack failed internally, it likely left tiny metal shavings or contaminated debris inside your power steering lines and fluid reservoir. If you do not completely flush the old fluid out of the lines and pump before installing our replacement rack, that old debris will immediately destroy the seals on the new unit, voiding its functionality. Always use fresh, manufacturer-approved power steering fluid.
